Lana Yilmaz has over 27 years experience in education as a teacher and advising students on their college applications. She is a graduate of the Independent Educational Consultant program through the University of California-Irvine, and a current university student studying Women and Gender studies.
As the mother of third culture kids, she is no stranger to the planning required for a cross-continent move and strategies to lessen the culture shock. Her own two sons were educated overseas before continuing their education at McMaster University and the University of British Columbia and Western University’s Huron College in Canada.
While living and teaching in Turkey and the Indian subcontinent, she gained an appreciation of the importance of cultural expectations and the need to factor them in when making decisions about education and adapting to new environments.
She passionately believes that choosing the correct college environment and setting realistic expectations enables students to thrive – academically, socially, and financially.
Living in the Greater Toronto Area, she is within driving distance of 23 publicly funded universities in the province and has visited the majority of universities in Canada. She is an expert on each provinces’ unique application process and advises our students about admission and financial aid opportunities in Canada.
